THE DATA ART PROJECT
Data Are Creation: Text to Image Meditations
What if we can interact with the hidden dimensions of a text? The Data Art Project (DAP) illuminates the universal language of art through text-to-image translation using natural language processing software. Though the data provides the blueprint for the artwork, it’s the artist’s imagination that weaves the stylization, rhythm, and tone. The role of the artist, inspiration, restraint, consciousness, and subconsciousness also emerge; they interrogate and provoke the reality of meaning-making and art creation. These artworks become forms of meditation as they reveal to the viewers an essence obscured by layers of human constructs, enabling the observer to see the inner dimensions of a text from a different perspective, challenging the limitations of our previous awareness.

The Interior Castle (Original title El Castillo Interior) is divided into seven mansions (also called dwellings). In her work, Santa Teresa de Avila describes the journey as the soul’s mission to unite itself to God through meditation, prayers, and acts of service. She describes mansions 1-3 as the purgative stage of the journey, 4-5 correspond to the illuminative stage, and mansions 6-7 correspond to the unitive stage. Each illustration depicts a stage in this journey considering and preserving the beauty of the soul.
